1 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1.1 Which platforms are supported?

Windows (all versions, including XP!), Linux (CentOS, Debian, SuSe, Redhat) and Mac (Leopard or higher). All the agents have the same features across all platforms. We have also support for raspberry embedded linux devices.

1.2 Ehorus agent doesn't work on Windows XP

You need to install .NET 4.0 framework and have at least XP SP3. You can get the .NET framework from Microsoft directly https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17718

1.3 Do you have any perpetual licenses?

eHorus have in two versions: a SaaS solution (online, subscription), but we have also an OnPremise licence in pertetual licencing, so you deploy your own infrastructure.

1.4 It have a cost?, what is the Pricing?

Any user can have up to 10 devices unlimited, for free, with no time limit, above that limite, you need to pay a fee per month. We have a dual model: licensed per device or per user.

1.5 What is the difference between user and device licenses?

The license per number of concurrent users limits how many concurrent sessions can be opened with the same user or group of users. It does not limit the number of machines that can potentially be accessed, which are unlimited.

The license by total number of devices does not limit the number of simultaneous connections or users that can be used at any given time, but it does limit the total number of devices that can be managed with that user or group of users.

1.6 What user limitations are there?

There are no limitations. You can use eHorus for client support, with friends or for your own setup. You can use it in any situation: professional, educational or personal.

1.7 Is hacker-safe?

The local agent can be password protected. The password won’t be stored on our servers or other intermediate server, only on your agent. The password is necessary to connect to your agent at all times. Even if someone gained access to our database they would be unable to find out your local passwords.

Apart from the local password, you can activate privacy mode which triggers a popup requesting authorization in case of anyone trying to connect.

To increase security, a two-factor authentication protocol can be activated, requiring a physical token (your phone) plus a password.

All data passing from your browser to our server is SSL-encrypted, as is the data passing from the agent to our server.

1.8 I currently use TeamViewer, and have close to 500 computers on my list. I typically only originate sessions from a dozen different computers, but I often will be at a client, and will need to use that to log into another machine. Teamviewer lets me do this simply by signing in. Can I do that with your program also?

No problem, you can access eHorus from everywhere with just a browser, you don't need even the "client".

1.9 Can I arrange my computer list in groups?

Yes, you can have many groups as you want. Also you can search by description, so you can add "tags" to description to find computers easily.

1.10 Can I have different user logins, so that I can have some of my employees see some machines, and not all machines in my list?

Yes, groups are for that. For example, you manage 500 systems, allocate them in different groups and later you can add different users to that groups so that users have access to that systems.

1.11 Let's say I set up 6 computers in a company with your program. One or two of the employees of that company want to access their computer from home. Can they log on to the same machine, with perhaps a different password, with their own (free) account?

Yes, you only need to place that system in a group, and have access to that group to that two different usernames.

If that access is temporal, you can "share" the access for a time-limited period, just by sharing a URL to anybody.

1.12 Which ports does eHorus use?

The agent installed on the servers does not listen to any ports; instead, it connects to our server port 8080. Your client (browser) connects to two servers: our directory server and the ehorus server, both via port 443.

For eHorus to work, you need an internet connection on the servers with eHorus installed, and which is configured to output at port 8080/tcp. If you need to output via a proxy, this can be configured on the agents.

Please consult the relevant documentation for more information. Please note that the firsts beta versions of eHorus, uses 18080/tcp port to connect to servers, but this port changed in version 1.0.

1.13 Speeding up the remote desktop

Activating the local connection in an agent creates a direct connection between your browser and the remote device, cutting out our servers and making the connection faster.

You can install a driver on Windows which speeds up the remote device by 30%.

1.14 Windows installer crashes right at the startup.

The Windows eHorus agent needs the .NET 4.0 Framework to work. In the event of a fault, the installer fails right after double-clicking on it. It can be downloaded free of charge from the Microsoft page.

The same error can be observed when trying to install a 64-bit agent on a 32-bit computer.

1.15 I can't connect to the agent directly

This is a local certificate issue. You will have to create an exception on your browser to authorize the use of a self-signed certificate on the remote system. This is difficult on Android systems.

1.16 Can I set up an eHorus server in my organization?

Yes, we have an On-premise licence with perpetual subscription.

1.17 Can I run eHorus at the same time as Logmein or Teamviewer?

Of course, without any problem.

1.18 What if I need to speak to someone?

1.19 Why does the connection sometimes break down?

The agent will cut the connection with the client if it detects more than five minutes of inactivity in order to avoid blocking the connection.

1.20 The agent is down and I can't connect to the remote device

The agent will try to connect to the server every time the connection is lost, so if your internet connection is interrupted it is not a problem. The agent will reconnect by itself.

If the server appears as down, it may be because it is saving energy and network functions are sleeping. In this case you may need to reconfigure it to so it does not enter sleep mode, or that only the monitor enters sleep mode.

1.21 How much bandwidth does the eHorus remote desktop consume?

It’s difficult to put a number on it because a desktop with a resolution of 800×600 and 256 colors isn’t the same as a desktop with a resolution of 1920×800 with millions of colors. You could average it out at a bandwidth consumption of 5Kbytes/sec (40kbps) under standard conditions.

1.22 I am having trouble typing in the terminal on an Android device.

Predictive text can interfere with eHorus. Disable it and try again.
